#BOATSBOATSBOATS • Your Boat Buyers Guide continues to grow!
Monique Richter Transom Artist • A former charter captain with a background in competitive wakeboarding and fine arts, Jupiter, Florida, resident Monique Richter has carved out a name for herself as one of the premier artists for painting faux-teak transoms on big battlewagons. (You can view her work on Instagram and at mrichterdesign.com.) We caught up with her to find out how she makes boat-name magic.
HULL DESIGN • Many discussions in boating center on hull design. While today’s hulls are typically faster, ride better and handle better than those made 20, 30 and 40 years ago, some folks might not understand hull design and its effect on performance and seaworthiness.
WAKEBOARD BINDINGS • Wakeboard bindings were once little more than a metal plate, minimal thickness of foam, and a rubbery strap to rein in your heel. Today there are a wide variety of supportive, boot-style binding choices on the market. Here are three aimed at beginner to expert riders.
What About the Wake?
BACK IN; GET OUT • The timeless tenets of launch-ramp etiquette.
SHORE ANCHORS • Pulling the boat onto a calm beach to go ashore is a common routine while spending time on the water. If you plan to spend more than a few minutes relaxing on the beach, you’ll probably want to anchor the boat, and that’s where spike- or auger-style shore anchors can help. Drive them into terra firma above the high-water mark, and run a line to the boat to ensure that your pride and joy doesn’t drift away. You can use them to keep the boat on the beach or to anchor out away from shore, with your conventional anchor deployed seaward from the bow and the shore anchor line secured to the stern.
TRAILER OF TOMORROW • You may never have pondered what boat trailers will look like in the future, but at least one company has given this a lot of thought, and has designed trailers that depart radically from conventional thinking.
