Cigar Aficionado is a magazine for the man who enjoys life’s great pleasures: fine dining and entertaining, the finest wines and spirits, world travel and the arts. At the heart of every issue is the cigar: what to smoke, where to smoke, and how to enjoy a great smoke.
highlights • It’s an extraordinary issue loaded with Classics, the highest designation on our 100-point scale. Three cigars reached the lofty Classic status, scoring 95 points, but one cigar—the Padrón Serie 1926 No. 48 Maduro—went a little higher with an astounding score of 96 points. This bold grande is a fine example of Nicaraguan tobacco.

churchills • With its rare Dominican wrapper and long aging process, Fuente Fuente OpusX cigars have become a phenomenon in today’s cigar culture. The Reserva d’Chateau lives up to the hype, scoring 94 points. The blend is sublime, but it’s the wrapper that defines this cigar, which is grown in the mountainous region of Bonao at Chateau de la Fuente. Because the Reserva d’Chateau is not too thick, one can taste the unique properties of its wrapper. The Olmec Maduro from Foundation Cigar Co. scored 93 points and is named after the Olmecs, an ancient Mesoamerican civilization that inhabited what is now modern-day San Andrés in Mexico, where the wrapper of this Nicaraguan cigar is grown. The Cuban Juan Lopez Selección Especial scored 92 points and is made especially for La Casa del Habano retail shops.
double coronas • There aren’t many cigars left in the Cuban Ramon Allones brand, but the ones that still remain tend to perform well. The Gigantes is no exception and scored 92 points. In addition to being one of the few surviving cigars in the Ramon Allones range, it also happens to be one of the last Cuban double coronas in production. Also scoring 92 points, the New World Oscuro Double Corona is made in Nicaragua by A.J. Fernandez. All the tobacco in this blend is grown by Fernandez, who is expanding his agricultural footprint across the country. Two double coronas scored 91 points and both are made in Nicaragua as well: The Tatuaje Broadleaf Reserva Tainos, which features a broadleaf wrapper, and the Illusione...
